This is my first piece that came out of a fiber sculpture class I am taking. I used wax to dip strips of fabric into and then I scratched portions of the strips to expose the fabric underneath. The way the strips are installed inspired an idea for my final daapworks installation where the strips will be made out of ceramic instead of fabric. I decided to name this piece after my sister, because the color pallet reminds me of an old blanket she used to carry around, and while I was scratching at the wax surface it reminded me of when she used to pick at my mom's candles and leave wax bits all over the table.

Thesis "Dry- Run"

It was a crazy quarter, but I think I have got a thesis that I'm proud to call my own. The "dry- run" show is done for all of the fine arts students to practice their methods of installation in the gallery setting. The following are photos from my current body of work that focuses on labor and theory of value and how scars, scrapes, and bruises are seen as proof of hard work and a testament to effort.

This winter I agreed to help out a grad student, by the name of Juia Feld, with the long process of creating pieces for her MFA show in the spring. Julia has been experimenting with making molds of soft objects. The objects she chose to work with are teddy bears. She has been showing me the process of making molds from the entire bear and making molds of the pieces and parts. Some of the work is shown above. It is harder than it looks to keep those things from falling apart during the casting process, but we have probably turned out about 10 bears so far. I will show some progress as we get further in the quarter. Also, don't forget to check some of Julia's other work at, http://www.juliafeld.com/ . She's kind of awesome.

Well, my first solo show was pretty cool. It wasn't too big of a space, so it wasn't overwhelming when it came to filling the space. The chili I made was also kind of a hit. Just want to thank everyone again for coming out to see it. It made the whole thing so much more fun.

I suck at keeping up with this thing.

I know I am always admitting to the fact that I have very large gaps of time between posts, but now I'm really starting to see my lack of commitment to the whole blogging thing. I'm actually going to start looking in to just getting a website now. Less pressure to explain myself every time I post something new... Anyway I got a couple cool things coming up. I got this solo show at DAAP because the graduate mentor I worked with over the summer is kind of awesome and got me a space. I'll post pictures of the work and the space later this week.

Still not over these hand-built forms. These are taller than the black pair, and I hope to hang them upside- down instead of just having them stand in this upright position. I plan on making more of these and having them get larger every time.

Advanced 3D Show: Continuation of Summer Work

After working with the idea of movement over the summer, I really wanted to make more pieces that focused less on the human figure and more on the idea of human interaction. I created these two pieces at  the beginning of the quarter and I plan on making another larger piece that hangs. The matte black glaze turned out exactly how I wanted, (WHICH NEVER HAPPENS) and I really enjoy how this idea is evolving. I liked playing with the placement of the two pieces together where they look interlocked, but actually are not even touching.
