Where I spend most of my time.

I thought it would be nice to show the place where I spend a lot of my time, the studio. I very much enjoy my little area. :)

Porcelain Chandelier: Beginning Stages

Here are some sketches and the beginning stages of a new project I am working on in Ceramics. I enjoy the idea of creating environments and playing with certain aspects of an environment. For this project I am obviously working with light and transparency again with the porcelain shapes that are inspired by the form of muscle tissue. I am making smaller pieces and will arrange them with fishing line around three lights that will be in the center of the "Chandelier." I would like to make multiple chandeliers, but the whole time thing is always an issue.

Legit Installation (Curio)

So for Installation Class I lucked out with the group I was paired with. We were kinda awesome and made this piece entitled "Curio." The concept was to bring art to the public and a curiosity for art to an audience outside of our college of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning. The event took place in the student center of UC where the large porcelain apple was placed under glass and behind stanchions and velvet rope (All hand made might I add). There were smaller apples given away as souvenirs and posters made to advertise the event (again all hand- made). The apple was used because it is a very well known object and is a symbol for many different things in our society, therefore allowing a broader audience for interpretation. When taking down the piece, the group discovered our large apple to be missing and a ransom note in its place. We enjoyed the thought of the interaction with our project and were glad that the public was not afraid to make their own interpretation of the work and act on it.

Resurfacing drawings for summer research.

I made most of these throughout the the past three years and the drawing style has been coming back in some of the surface techniques I use in ceramics. More to come with the same type of style, only in clay.

Idle Hands...

So I had this idea to wrap a ceramic body in fishing line and hang it on the wall. Glad I got it out of my system, but the process was the tedious insanity that I enjoy. So not all was lost I guess.

Throwing

So I decided it would probably be a good idea to learn how to throw and make pottery. It was great learning a skill that relied on the perfection of form, because sometimes I do not pay enough attention to form in my work. The surface decoration was fun too. I experimented with a lot of methods, but i enjoyed the line work with the black undergalze and I think I will continue that for a while.
